Ida Lindgren

Born 1983 in Uppsala, Sweden
Based in Enköping.

Ida Lindgren is a visual artist based in Enköping. Working across moving image, photography, sculpture and installation, her practice examines how power operates through spatial and institutional structures, and how these forces shape bodies, perception and agency. Engaging with the tension between care and control, she often works with existing sites and materials to investigate processes of representation and identity formation.

Lindgren holds an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and a BFA in documentary film from Stockholm University of the Arts. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Sweden and internationally, and screened at festivals such as Berlinale and IDFA. She is a recipient of a two-year working grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and the Uppsala Cultural Scholarship 2025-2026, and is represented in public collections including Region Sörmland and the Public Art Agency Sweden.

Artistic Practice

Ida Lindgren’s work takes shape in the space between structures, between image and text, interior and exterior form, the closed and the open. She is drawn to the gap where these elements do not fully align, where meaning shifts rather than settles.

She works with time as a material. Repetition, pauses and duration reveal how perception is shaped and how power becomes part of everyday space. Many of her works return to institutional and domestic environments, where care and control exist side by side.

The child appears in her practice not as a character but as a position within these structures. It marks a place shaped by systems, yet not fully defined by them. Through restrained gestures and careful spatial arrangements, her work loosens fixed hierarchies between text, image, sound and viewer. Meaning emerges in the interval as something unstable and shared.
